Bloody hell, I can't make a comment about trying to be as good as you can be without people taking offense.
Here goes:
* I'm actively trying to get him to sign up for raids. Judging from his gear and itemization, I'd say he's not r2r for ICC - however, as I've said multiple times, I'd
love to see a log parse that proves otherwise. Without one, I have to go by theorycrafting alone, and by that I'd say he's not ready. Yet.
* The dps comment was just a reminder, and a personal gripe - a fair few people seem to think that once you hit the minimum, you're done. I hate setting dps targets other than "more than you have now", because people seem to stop trying after they hit a certain amount. If you don't, the comment does not apply to you, and you can move along - but seeing the shitstorm it causes, I'll refrain from saying anything like it from now on.
* It's hard enough to convey the difference between "You need this to be r2r" and "If you do this your performance will be better" without extreme care in choice of words. I'm very glad he seems to understand my meaning regardless, but please don't complicate matters by taking offense in his stead where it really isn't needed. If this is the way it has to go every time, I'm severely tempted to either take it all to PM, or relinquish my class leadership altogether - but I'm trying to avoid either for now.
To Az:
* Faith and Trogg are right, Rawr is a great program to figure out dps on. If you care to maximize your ability, download it and play around with it - I use it myself aswell. This is by no means
needed for r2r or asga raiding, though - but if you like playing around with stats it will be a big help.
* As you might have noticed, gearscore is not very loved here - you'd probably do better not to mention it again. One of the problems with it is that it give a score for your gear without considering how good it is for your class or spec - a warrior tank in i277 casting cloth would have an awesome gearscore but obviously wouldn't be too good. In your case, mp5, spirit and such do little to nothing for you, and lower the value of your gear even though gearscore might say otherwise - and the same thing goes for average ilvl.
* Having a +hit trinket to swap out for a non-hit trinket is generally the best and easiest way to switch between having and not having Misery or Improved Faerie Fire on raids. Good call.
* I'll assume you already know this, but
this is a very good place to get more info on Elemental shamans. Look around the shaman forum there a bit more if you want to get technical about it, and/or to keep up with the impact upcoming changes might have on our class or spec.
Anyway, good luck on the raid and I look forward to seeing the parse!
