I will be moving to a new flat in London at the start of next month so am looking into some isp options. Can anyone recommend some isps that offer a rolling monthly contract? Im not to keen on signing up for 12 months.

Advice number one would be go to the flat, get a wifi card with a big external antenna and see what you can pick up Wink

After that see if it's reachable for cable/ADSL, and work out your choices from there.
I've requested a 1 year tenancy on my flat so i'll be able to tie it in with all the 12 month contracts stuff like tv/interwebs requires - i'm just too lazy to switch stuff.

Well we have a 6 month with the option for 12 lease. Basicly we can leave anywhere between 6-12 months but cant be asked to leave untill 12 months. I really dont like going into contracts if I can help it but if thats the best option then I may have to go down that route I guess.

Went with virgin media for phone and net in the end simply because they didnt charge me any kind of connection fee. I refuse to pay BT £120 to push a button at the exchange.

I dunno if they are all that bad or its just the area you are in? Remember also that you share your connection with the a few other people as well. Gunna have to take the risk anyway as there is no way im going to give those robbing gits at BT my money.

Used to be with NTL before virgin bought them out and it was a great service then so fingers crossed.

I'm with Virgin (ex-NTL as well) and it works perfectly. I can't remember the last time it DC'd me from WoW, usually it is the game crashing if I go online suddenly. There is some occasional downtime, maybe a few days per year, but I've not seen any ISP that doesn't have that.

We had one problem about 3 years ago where it reset every 10-15 mins, but turned out to be a faulty component in the wall box outside. They replaced it in a few days, although convincing them it needed looking at took a lot longer (not in my name so I couldn't talk to them). The key is to get past the call centre onto someone who isn't reading from a script but again most companies are the same nowdays.

I've had bad experiences with BT accounts though. I had a 12 month contract but we moved out of our flat after 3 months. I phoned up to say we had gone, but I would carry on paying each month until it was up to honour the contract as I couldn't afford to pay it all in one go. They said that would be fine then took 9 months payment plus a fee the next day putting me over my overdraft limit and costing me almost £150 extra in bank fines on top. Not surprisingly I'm not planning on ever using them again Smiley. I also do whatever I can to not use Direct Debit after that, they can take any amount without letting you know as you sign away your right to prior notification of changes.

Maybe it's the case with all ISP but everyone seems to either have no trouble at all with Virgin or just get the most abysmal service possible, I personally am the latter and loathe them Tongue
