Last night saw us enter Ulduar Heroic for the final time for this weeks reset, and after a nice quick warm up on Razorscale, we continued onto Thorim who had been causing us all sorts of problems for the last couple of weeks. However, on our very first try of the night we got Thorim down - A very, very pleasing kill. It was an excellent result especially considering it was only our first try of the night and also the first time we had ever got him to phase 2.

The Thorim encounter is reportedly a big block for many raid groups, so it was nice to do it in only 2-3 weeks when apparently many groups take or have taken a lot longer. The answer to our previous problems in the arena seemed to be having more DPS overall, using just 3 tanks and 7 healers out of 25 where previously we had up to 8 healers and 4 tanks! We also loaded the arena with all the durable healers, durable melee DPS, and only a couple of squishy types. So in the end we used an 8:17 split between gauntlet and arena. We simply found it better to send all our squishy types down the gauntlet, which is melee unfriendly anyway, on that try both teams did really well and I think at the end we had only 2 deaths total.

Thorim - 15th June

After killing Thorim the next boss and final watcher of the four in Ulduar is Mimiron. Click the link below for a sneak preview of some of the cool stuff that this encounter will have us doing.

Ulduar Progress Update
Written by Stormhammer
Sunday, 31 May 2009 10:05

We have made decent progress in Ulduar the last couple of weeks, and we have a number of new kills and achievements to report. I have also been doing some looking around wowprogress to see how we are fairing on a more overall and global scale...

Most recently we have taken down Freya after a couple of good nights learning over 2 resets - it was pleasing to see people get the hang of the difficult encounter with the varied add waves, and we seemed to make steady progress over the 2 nights we learnt this encounter this week. So on Friday we were rewarded with our 1st Freya kill shortly before the end of the raid, leaving us with just enugh time to clear the 2 packs and take a sneaky peak at Thorim (which looks like it may be both difficult and fun).

Freya Redeemed

Freya Heroic - 29th May

A few days before Freya we have managed to down Hodir; its a very Hectic fight with a lot going on and a lot of dmg being dished out to the whole raid, but by using some Frost resist and improving how we moved, and how well we used the buffs the NPC's give we managed to get him down. We went back this reset to kill him again after clearing the other/farm bosses on night one, after a few unsuccessful tries where we lacked DPS and survivability we killed him for a 2nd time but in doing so also got the achievement Heroic: Cheese the Freeze

(Note: Looking on wowprogress we are only the 2nd group on the server to get that one after <Merged>, so grats to all involved on our focus through the fight)

Hodir Reedemed

Hodir Heroic - 26th May

A few weeks before (and prior to me going ionto hospital) we also downed the Iron Council/Assembly of Iron. The fight itself requires good co-ordination from all and massive amounts of spam healing, especially at the start!! It caused us problems for a while and will be one of those of fights where something can go wrong and we can wipe quickly and without warning for a few weeks yet, but as we get used to it we should probably manage it a bit easier until the point where we are in a position to vary the kill order. Unfortunately killing Brundir last means a rather uninspiring kill shot which looks like we just killed a tiny Iron dwarf trash mob!

Iron Council

Assembly of Iron Heoric - 11th May

During this week our 10 man team also devised us some new tactics for XT002 and using them we had a nice new kill of the boss in Heroic together with the Heroic: Nerf Engineering Achievement - it was about time we got that one! We are hoping that using the same thing next week will enable us to avoid Tympanic Tantrums, leaving us to deal mainly with the 2 types of bombs (ask aoife for tips on that Tongue out)

Ulduar Kills and Achievements Update
Written by Stormhammer
Sunday, 03 May 2009 13:06

ASGA have started to make some steady progress in Uldaur and over the last weeks - the 2nd and 3rd weeks since the launch of the instance. In those weeks we have downed several new bosses in both the 25 man and 10 man versions. Its a pleasure to have somewhere new to go that requires concentration to earn kills and to have trash that requires slightly more thought than gathering it all together and AoE'ing like mad.

While some of the content we have cleared was nerfed, the runs even before the changes last Wednesday suggested that we had began to make the adjustment to the healing, DPS, teamwork and movement needed - we had pretty much managed to kill XT002 on tuesday night, fialing on one good attempt simply beacuse of an unfortunate tank death when the DPS looked like it was plenty enough to beat the enrage.

On Thursday we returned to Ulduar and killed XT002 Deconstructor quite comfortably on the 2nd attempt - even allowing for a significant portion of the raid seeing the fight for the 1st time that night. After the first failed attempt we managed a nicely executed kill and at the same time managed to avoid any collateral damage to each other through his Gravity Bombs, so we gained the Heroic: Nerf Gravity Bombs achievement.

XT002

XT002 Deconstructor Heroic - 30th April

Friday night we returned to Ulduar and started off with Razorscale for a warm up, we managed a very nice smooth 1-shot kill with all 25 players alive at the end, and grabbing the Heoric: A Quick Shave achievement on the way.

We then headed to Kologarn which we had worked on the previous night; this time with a slightly improved positioning system and a better focus from everyone on avoiding the eye-beam. It worked brilliantly and we had him down on our 1st attempt on him that night.

Kologarn

Kologarn Heroic - 1st May

At this point we decided not to head back toward Ignis or the Iron Council and to press on towards the four watchers in the 2nd half of the instance. Just down the stairs from Kologarn, Auriaya the next boss patrols in a very long arc around the ring of observation.

We knew from our 10 man kill of Auriaya, that the main thing with the fight was sorting out the pull and avoiding pounces from her cats that guard her at that time. After the first unsuccessful pull where we wiped very quickly, we got up and pulled again, this time the pull went fine and we executed the rest of the fight perfectly.

Auriaya Killed

Auriaya Heroic - 1st May

We then spent the rest of the night clearing the trash to Freya and working on tactics for her, it looks like a very interesting fight with three different add waves each requiring special tactics. We will continue to work on this in forth coming days and weeks after learning Ignis and Iron Council.
